The beautiful town of Palakkad, close to Kairali’s The Ayurvedic Healing Village, offers numerous destinations of historical and religious importance.

The town of Palakkad

Palakkad lies at the foot of the Western Ghats, the dreamy land of misty mountains with its evergreen tropical forests, dams, wildlife sanctuaries, rivers, rare birds, historical monuments, temples and traditional Ayurvedic treatment centers. Palakkad is fast becoming a favourite for Kerala tour packages, and has tremendous scope to become known as one of the best tourist destinations in India. The district is gifted with the beauty of the untouched Nelliampathy hills, the unique Silent Valley National Park, the famous Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, the Attappady hills and many spectacular dams, such as Malampuzha, Mangalam, Pothundi, Kanjirappuzha, Siruvani and Parambikulam.

Thiruvalathoor

Kerala Ayurveda is world famous alongwith its tourist attractions and Thiruvalathoor houses famous for Wood & Stone carving are one of them. A place of historical importance, Thiruvalathoor houses an ancient temple known for its beautiful wood and stone carvings.

Thenari

Thenari, a natural Spring created by Lord Ram to quench thirst of his wife Sita is famous as Ayurveda in Kerala. A natural spring in front of the old Shri Ram Temple in Palakkad; its pure water is thought to be as sacred as the holy river Ganges. Tradition recounts that Rama and Sita visited this place during their years of exile. With no water nearby, Rama shot an arrow into the ground, causing a spring to rise in order to quench the thirst of his beloved.

Jain Temple of Jainimedu

A temple built 500 years back by a Jain leader (Sutar) who came to Palakkad from Mysore is as popular as India Ayurveda. This 500 year old temple was built by a Jain leader (Sutar) who came to Palakkad from Mysore during the invasion of Tipu Sultan. Situated to the west of Palakkad, this historic 32 feet long, 20 ft. wide granite temple displays images of the Jain Thirthankaras and Yakshinis. The region around the temple, known as Jainimedu, is one of the few places in Kerala where the vestiges of Jainism have survived. It is at a Jain house here that poet Kumaranasan wrote his monumental poem Veenapoovu (The fallen flower).

Tipu's Fort

A gigantic Fort built by Haider Ali of Mysore in 1766 and later renovated by Tipu Sultan is a place of visit in the land of Kerala Ayurveda. Situated in the heart of the town, this well-preserved fort was built by Haider Ali of Mysore in 1766, and later renovated by Tipu Sultan. One of India’s oldest Hanuman temples is situated in the same compound.

Kalpathy Shiva Temple

A famous shiva temple in heritage village at Kalpathy is as popular as Ayurveda in Kerala. Kalpathy is one of the ancient 'Brahmin Agraharams' in Kerala, located in the heart of the town. 'Ratholsavam' is held during middle of November, a famous festival of Palakkad.
