SWASWARA

Listen to your inner voice

SOUTH INDIA - GOKARNA

SwaSwara is located on the western coast of India, popularly known as the ‘Konkan’ coast in the state of Karnataka in South India. Set a little away from the village of Gokarna, nestling amidst rolling hills and lined by serene coconut palms are 24 villas inspired by the homesteads, tradition and craft of the Uttara Karnataka region.

We live unaware of the inner sound of our being, drowned out as it is, by the din of daily life. Only when everything else quiets down and we are at peace can we hear it. That's why we've made sure, that the shouts of the modern world die down to whispers, at SwaSwara. The inner voice of the Self. That echoes on a fabled beach, shaped like the very first sound of creation, Om. A perfect setting, for communion of mind and body. Come, say hello to the song and celebration within you.

Ecology, Community and Culture

A third of the team members that manage the resort are drawn from the local community in and around Gokarna, It’s a bond that goes beyond employment, rather a give and take of wisdom and inspiration, sharing of perspective.

We raise awareness about the importance of keeping Om Beach clean and free from refuse and work with other businesses in the area, to maintain the fresh clean environs you see around you.

SwaSwara propounds the philosophy of preservation and reinvention. Fresh water is a scarce resource here and we have adopted rain water harvesting to make us self sufficient, implementing this system in a local school too.

We treat and recycle waste water and use it for the greens, flowers beds and farm at SwaSwara. Kitchen and solid wastes are cultured into bio gas that is used for cooking and also for creating organic fertilizers
 for the farm.

Vermicomposting converts dry leaves into environmentally sound fertilizer and restores lost nutrients to the soil. Not only do we practise these ecologically sound tenets, we work on spreading awareness about them in the local community.

We have instituted community programmes that support local schools and self help groups that generate income and dignity for the people here. You can also participate by contributing to these endeavours directly. A chat over herbal tea with our naturalist and you could gain insights into the ecology and flora and fauna of the region.

The privilege of giving back a little to the land where we have gained so much is embodied in the life plan at SwaSwara.
